Elizabeth Egbert Berghout is University Carillonist and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Kansas, Lawrence campus. Her academic degrees in organ performance and church music are from Brigham Young University and the University of Kansas, where she studied carillon with Albert Gerken. Dr. Berghout performs weekly carillon concerts on the world-renowned 53-bell Taylor carillon, housed in the historic World War II Memorial Campanile. In addition to her performing responsibilities, she teaches carillon courses and music theory. Dr. Berghout lectures, teaches, and performs throughout North America and Europe and performs regularly as a guest organist at the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Jeremy Chesman, AAGO, ChM, is University Carillonist and Professor of Music at Missouri State University. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he was the first person to earn a Master of Music degree in Carillon Performance. His performances have been broadcast in the United States, the Netherlands, and Japan. He has performed live throughout the United States, as well as in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Portugal, where he played a recital of American music at the National Palace in Mafra on the European Union's day of mourning for the events of September 11.
Dr. Chesman studied carillon with Margo Halsted and Todd Fair at the University of Michigan. As a fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation, he studied carillon with Eddy Mariën and composition with Geert D'Hollander at the Royal Carillon School of Belgium.
His primary research is in pedagogy. He is a registered Suzuki teacher of Organ, Harp, Voice, and Piano. His book, Making Music on the Carillon, was published by American Carillon Music Editions.
